Conceptually launched in Europe in 2012, Artemide Australia is excited to welcome the very first product from the IN-EI range to our shores, Hoshigame.

Co-developed with ISSEY MIYAKE, IN-EI is a sophisticated collection of freestanding, table and suspension lights.

Miyake’s trademark folding technology combines with a special fabric derived from recycled PET bottles to create sculptural yet rigid forms. Designed to be collapsible, the geometric shades retain their form perfectly without the need for an internal frame. The range’s intricate shades were designed using complex 2 and 3 dimensional mathematical principles. This harmonious blend of light and shade to results in a form that’s visually enchanting.

2012 was a significant year for Melbourne fashion label TETTMANN. DOUST, with designers Naomi Tettmann and Elke Doust receiving a number of accolades including Stonnington’s Designer of the Year award and an invitation to show at Melbourne’s LMFF collections.

Expanding upon all they’ve learnt in their craft since the label’s inception, TETTMAN. DOUST delve into the universal language of mathematics in their new Autumn/Winter 2013 range, Infinitum.

Taking inspiration from the nature of clouds, crystals and lighting, T.D have unveiled a collection based on fractals - the geometric patterns which occur in nature. Guided through this intricate world by fractals expert Dan Wills, T.D have adopted underlying systems of recursive geometry to inform their new range.

T.D maintains their dedication to luxury fabrics by colliding soft leather, silk and fine wool with crystalline prints and textural beadwork.

The results are beautifully crafted garments, as soft layers are juxtaposed with geometric structures and each piece displays their own unique glimpse of an unfolding universe.

We had the opportunity to ask the guys at T.D a few questions about their current season and generally what inspires them.

What was the inspiration behind the current season?

The inspiration for our current AW13 collection is based on the mathematics of fractals. Created through the digital realm of computer modelling, and using mathematical equations, fractals allow people to analyse and mimic nature’s elaborate process of creation. We are constantly inspired by scientific discovery and the marvels of the natural world.

What should we expect from the Tettmann Doust label in the future?

In the immediate future you can expect to see us on the runway as part of LMFF’s Independent Runway in March! And for the future in general, you can expect to see us collaborating with some amazing Melbourne artists (painters, sculptors) to assist us in realising some new ideas…including bags and shoes.

Any style tips from the designers?

We prefer not to dictate this kind of thing. We like to see people doing it their way, especially when it comes to our clothes. As designers we are always looking for fresh perspective.

Who is someone that you would like to collaborate with? (past or present)

There are plenty of people on our list, but we would love to collaborate with talented jeweller Julia Deville, as we love both her aesthetic and her ethos.

Does Melbourne influence / enhance your work?

It does indeed. In fact we are told often that our label is very ‘Melbourne’! We were confused by this at first, but have come to understand it as meaning at least one thing in particular: we have a penchant for black!

However we love colour too, and as fervent collaborators, the abundance in colourful creative Melbourne talent influences us daily.

The T.D range can be found at Milly Sleeping in Carlton or through T.D. For further information visit tettmanndoust.com
