If you haven’t already noticed porcelain as a finish is now in the spotlight as the interior trend, with leading Australian lighting design company ISM Objects is at the forefront with its beautiful Stippled Porcelain range.

We are excited to see Melbourne-made Southern Ice Porcelain was selected for the pendants. “This particular porcelain cries out to be illuminated,” says Steve McClure, ceramicist and Australian craftsman. “I wanted to let the material speak loudest - the translucence and the beautiful warmth of the material when lit from within. Rather than making the material do what I wanted, I have tried to show the qualities of the material wherever possible, its fluidity, colour, texture and finished strength.”

The latest lighting design from award-winning ISM Objects has been created with flexibility in mind. The stylish Loft wall lamp can transform the feel and function of a room with a gentle swing from its wall-mounted pivot.

Melbourne-based ISM Objects was formed in 1990 by Celina Clarke and Simon Christopher, who share a passion for enduring, unique lighting designs. A commitment to local manufacturing ensures that all products are crafted at its factory in the Melbourne suburb of Mentone. Some 75% of ISM Objects’ designs are created in-house and the rest are conceived in collaboration with other leading Australian designers. ISM Objects’ outstanding designs have also received international acclaim through exhibitions across the globe.

The Loft Wall Lamp is the latest in ISM Objects’ unique range of lighting designs. Constructed from sturdy steel and spun metal, Loft features a matt black finish with elegant brass elements. Criteria’s striking collection of designs is now even more desirable with the introduction of Apparatus Studio’s new Italian marble object collection which is now available in Criteria’s Melbourne showroom.

The Neo Marble collection explores the versatility of function - the vessel to carry, and the lantern to illuminate.

The torch-like Neo Lantern is comprised of a glass orb that sits atop a marble base - a single candle produces a delicate glow. Constructed from Italian marble, machined brass and sandblasted glass, Neo Lantern comes in three sizes and is available in White (Bianco Arabescato), or Black (Nero Kinitra).

The Neo Vessel is a study of contrast and form. The arms of the solid brass bowl slot into an urn-like marble base; the footed brass bowl may be removed from the urn and standalone. Like Neo Lantern, Neo Vessel comes in White (Bianco Arabescato), or Black (Nero Kinitra).

These gorgeous products are stocked at Criteria, 66 Gwynne Street Cremorne.

Beautiful set of lighting designs from British design label buster + punch. Now available at Living Edge.

A confluence of the elegant and the unexpected, Buster + Punch’s lighting designs are inspired by the fashion, music and subculture scenes of London, injecting a distinct British attitude into its extraordinary collection. Founded in 2012 by London architect and industrial designer, Massimo Buster Minale, the craftsmanship of the British blacksmith tradition is celebrated in every design.

Buster + Punch’s Hero range features a hand-forged 3mm bronzed gunmetal circular frame with naked pendant bulbs that can either be suspended through the centre or inserted horizontally into the frame. Featuring matte-black rubber detailing, the light fittings are made from solid knurled brass soaked in olive oil to preserve their appearance.

The Hooked range features single or grouped pendants with hooks housed in either a single rubber ceiling rose or a wall fitting, which allows light to be raised or lowered. Bulbs can be nude or fitted with a shade. Like the Hero range, Hooked is also made from bronzed gunmetal and solid knurled brass and matte-black rubber detailing.

Buster + Punch aims to create designs for those who want to live with conviction. This makes their lighting the ideal addition to the Living Edge range of authentic and inspired designs.

Kicking off Globelight’s 2014 program is the ‘River’ installation by James Tapscott.

River is an evolution of previous wind based works that seek to engage our understanding of a space in a different way, using a different sensory tool. The work is comprised of custom made weather proof and light-weight light bars tethered to tree branches through a specially designed rigging system enabling them to hang in perfect unity. The effect in the wind is such that the lights bars oscillate and flow like a river.

The actual construct is merely a medium for the site to express itself, rather than my own compulsions, and the art resides in the experience of the viewer as they watch the oscillating movement of the light, understanding the wind from the trees’ point of view.

River is best viewed on a windy evening, access to the site after hours is available Monday-Thursday until 9pm. Until May 25th. Incinerator Arts Complex - 180 Holmes Rd, Moonee Ponds.

It also marks the beginning of Globelight’s 2014 program. For details about Globelight go to www.globelight.com.au

Melbourne based designer Adam Cornish’s latest product launch is a series of lights made by hand from natural and locally sourced stoneware.

The Stoneware Lighting range was conceived on a visit to a local artist and is influenced by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, which believes there is great beauty in design that is honest and embraces the process in which it was created.

We love the natural organic form and texture of these pieces. Make sure you call into Corporate Culture to view them for yourself, 680 Elizabeth Street Melbourne. Prices retail from RRP $560.00.

New from Stephanie Ng are these wonderful Scoop pendant lights. The concept behind Scoop was to create a simplistic form with clean contours that wrap gently around the globe reminiscent of an ice cream cone.

The bright coloured ring pops suggesting different flavours that appeal to various individuals with option to alternate with bright coloured cords. The top of the light is turned hard wood and provides a tactile surface before curving into the metal spun cap that lives right on top of the globe to minimise glare from light shining directly at you. This allows the eye to wander above to appreciate the beauty in the natural element of the design of the wood grains and knots.
